EDUCATION. For the first time since its creation, the University of New Caledonia (UNC) is the winner of a very selective call for projects from the European Commission’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation master plan.

The UNC and its scientific partners will therefore receive 1,288,000 euros or nearly 154 million of our Pacific francs for a period of four years. Funding will begin on April 1st, 2020 and end on March 31th, 2024. This funding will be used primarily for the development of the FALAH (Family Farming, Lifestyle and Health) project, aiming to build and mobilize a network of research teams operating in the Pacific region and involving researchers, teacher-researchers and doctoral students who share a common interest in food security and its relationship with the environment, nutrition and health sector. Ultimately, the goal would be to promote and revitalize family farming in order to improve the health of the population in the Pacific and to ensure food security in the context of climate change and social and economic transformations.

In total, nearly a hundred people will be a part of this project including thirty Caledonians, but also Australians, Europeans, ni-Vanuatu and Fijians.
