Submission for the 4th PIURN Conference Opens

Member of the Pacific Islands Universities Research Network (PIURN), the Solomon Islands National University (SINU) is organizing virtually the 4th PIURN Conference, on November 15th and 16th, 2021.The Conference aims to explore the theme Shaping our Tomorrow Today: Research, Innovation and Practice in the Pacific”.

The 4th PIURN conference intends to bring together researchers from PIURN Member Universities, scholars from and outside the Pacific Region.

The conference aims to cover the following thematic areas and/or topics:

Strengthening Pacific Cultures and Identities:

  • Indigenous Pacific Island Cultures in Times of Rapid Social Chang
  • Pacific Cultures in Changing Times: Perspectives from Within
  • New Religions and the Severing of Families and Communities Ties
  • Identity and Stereotypes

Future of the Pacific Youth under Challenging Times:

  • Learning and teaching during Covid 19
  • Gender: Strife Towards a Balance
  • COVID-19
  • Pacific Youth in Changing Times: Urban and Rural Experiences

Facing Climate Change Impacts in the Pacific Islands Countries and Territories:

  • Renewal Energy in the Pacific
  • The Impact of Mining and Logging (needs to be included for purposes of emphasis because of destructive impact on island communities)
  • Climate Change
  • Natural Hazards

Improving Health and Well-being in the Pacific Communities:

  • Sports (financial, health, and cultural benefits)
  • Health and Well-being in Times of Rapid Social Change
  • Non-communicable Diseases (NCD)
  • Food Security

Build Innovative, Lawful, and Strong Institutions in the Pacific:

  • Economics
