6th PIURN Conference underway

The Papua New Guinea University of Technology (PNGUoT) is hosting the 6th Pacific Islands Universities Regional Network (PIURN) Conference this week, 1-3 July 2025.

With over 170 presentations, 2 high-level roundtables, 3 plenary sessions addressing the challenges faced by the region, this regional conference highlights the dynamic research community of the Pacific. The general theme “Harnessing technologies for the safe and sustainable development of the Pacific” reflects the challenges faced by our common Pacific Ocean: the urgency to innovate to respond to the pressing challenges and the responsibility to preserve our fragile environment and ecosystems. PIURN Member Universities, but also Australian universities, regional research institutes, and higher education institutions from Papua New Guinea, will be represented in this academic platform in Lae, Papua New Guinea.

From Artificial Intelligence to Traditional Knowledge, Quality Education to Climate-Smart Technologies, Pacific Sustainable Development to Environmental Monitoring and Disaster Management, the 6th Conference will bring together 200 delegates to exchange ideas, share knowledge, and build lasting scientific partnerships.
